NARS: Pressed or Liquid?

Hey Guys! Welcome back to The Makeup Mistress where we love ALL things makeup! I find that throughout time, I stick to certain products from certain brands that really just catch my attention and serve me well over the years. NARS has been one of those brands for me, which over the years, I’ve tried and tested, and found what my favorite products are, such as their creamy concealer and their blushes.

One of my most used NARS blushes is the ever so famous signature color known as Orgasm. I have been using this color for years as I think it is the perfect combination of color vs. shimmer to really add some pigment to your cheeks. I think it applies beautifully to any skin tone and I’ve used it on pretty much all my clients. This color is super versatile and it is perfect for all seasons as well; if you can’t tell already, this is my go-to blush color.

Recently, NARS released a liquid blush and included Orgasm in their line up of colors. I was so fascinated with this, being that it is my favorite blush, I just HAD to order it. Sure enough, it sold out shortly after, and I believe it is actually still sold out on the NARS website. I was so excited to try it that I decided to cancel my online order and go to Sephora and check it out/buy it in store (they were luckily still available at my local Sephora). When I got there, I swatched it on my arm and began to play around with the liquid blush on my cheeks to see how it applied. Here is what I gathered from trying out this product:

  • The formula is a little more liquid than I would have imagined it to be, hence, beware of pumping out too much to apply as it is quite runny
  • The pigment, when swatched on my arm seemed a bit lighter for some reason, but when I tried it on my cheeks, it applied darker and heavier than the pressed powder version of the blush
  • It is not as shimmery as the original pressed powder blush, it’s more of a baby pink tone
  • You have to shake the bottle vigorously to get the liquid to mix properly as it does separate when it sits over time

I love NARS products and I do love their liquid blush as well, however, I don’t think anything can beat the original pressed powder blush in this color. I would rate this product a 3.5/5 as it does apply beautifully, but it does have some flaws as I mentioned above. It is a little on the pricier side at $30, but you do get a little more bang for your buck because you get more product in the liquid blush vs. the pressed powder blush. It is definitely worth a try, especially since the application is more pigmented than the original blush. And do remember, they have three other colors to choose from as well!
